Isobel Walker

Director

Professor Isobel Walker has been Director of UK NEQAS for Blood Coagulation since February 2005, previously holding posts as Consultant Haematologist, Head of Department of Haematology at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Co-Director of the West of Scotland Haemophilia and Thrombosis Centre and Honorary Professor of Perinatal Haematology, Glasgow University. She is a past President of the British Society for Haematology and Chair of the British Committee for Standards in Haematology.

Dr Ian Jennings

Manager & Deputy Director

Dr Ian Jennings joined UK NEQAS BC from Cambridge in 1993 as Deputy Scheme Manager, and has been manager of the Scheme since February 2020. He is also a member of the IBMS Scientific Advisory Panel for Haematology and Chief Examiner in Haematology for the Institute, and a member of the BCSH Haemostasis and Thrombosis Task Force. He completed his doctorate in 2005 on Diagnostic Errors in Thrombophilia Screening. His responsibilities include troubleshooting for laboratories with performance problems.

Dr Steve Kitchen

Scientific Director 

Dr Steve Kitchen is currently the Scientific Director of the UK NEQAS for Blood Coagulation with an additional scientific role in the WHO and World Federation of Haemophilia EQA programmes. He is the head scientist at the Sheffield Haemostasis and Thrombosis Centre. He has more than 25 years experience in the field of laboratory testing in haemostasis with a long standing interest in standardisation and is active within the Science and Standardisation Committee of the ISTH. He has been involved in drawing up guidelines for a number of National and International bodies in the field.

Christopher Reilly-Stitt

Scientific Programme Manager and Deputy Scheme Manager

Christopher Reilly-Stitt has 30 years experience in NHS laboratories and joined UK NEQAS BC in 2021.

He is the scientific programme manager for phenotype and genotype laboratory programmes that encompasses routine and non-routine coagulation assays.

Dianne Kitchen

Lead Scientist for Point of Care Programmes

Dianne Kitchen has over 30 years experience in NHS laboratories and joined the UK NEQAS Blood Coagulation team in 1999. She is the specialist scientific lead for the Point of Care/Near Patient Testing (POCT/NPT) section. This involves giving regular presentations on PCT/NPT for INR monitoring and also developing new programmes as more devices come onto the market.

Anna Williams

Scientific Lead Haemophilia

Anna has over 10 years experience in NHS laboratories and joined the UK NEQAS blood coagulation team in 2019.  She is the scientific lead for haemophilia programmes which involves looking after all aspects of the haemophilia components, maintaining and developing new programmes, giving presentations and also supporting the Scientific Programme Manager and the Point of Care Specialist Scientific Lead in all aspects of the scheme.

Shelene Munroe-Peart

Quality Manager & Specialist Biomedical Scientist

Shelene Munroe-Peart joined UK NEQAS BC as a Biomedical Scientist in 2006. She is currently the Quality Manager; her role is to ensure that the Quality Management System is implemented and maintained, reporting on the functioning and effectiveness of the system and ensuring compliance with ISO 17043 standards through internal and external audit. She also assists the Scientific Programme Manager and the Point of Care Specialist Scientific Lead in all aspects of the scheme.

Lilia Brown

Specialist Biomedical Scientist MSc MIBMS

Lilia Brown has more than 20 years’ experience working in diagnostic laboratories including NHS. She joined UK NEQAS BC as a Biomedical Scientist in 2015. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist she supports the Scientific Programme Manager and the Point of Care Specialist Scientific Lead in maintaining existing programmes and involved in developing new programmes for Point of Care Patient Testing (POCT) / laboratory testing.

Jo Foster

Office Manager

Jo Foster joined UK NEQAS BC in 2011 and was subsequently appointed Personal Assistant to the Manager and Scientific Programme/Deputy Manager. Jo is responsible for the administrative section of UK NEQAS BC programmes and the day to day management, registration and maintenance of UK participants in NEQAS BC EQA programmes.

Jennie Ogden

EQA Programme Co-ordinator & Deputy Quality Manager 

Jennie joined UK NEQAS BC in 2010 as Clerical Assistant. She is currently EQA Programme Coordinator with duties which include maintaining participant records, preparing documentation and assisting participants with queries. She also took on the role of Deputy Quality Manager in February 2019, assisting the Quality Manager with internal audits and quality management within the centre.

Sharon Burdett

Medical Laboratory Assistant

Sharon Burdett joined UK NEQAS BC in 2014 as an assistant Clerical Officer and has taken on the role of a Medical Lab Assistant (MLA). Sharon’s main responsibilities include preparing and shipping survey distributions; maintaining participant records and assisting with lab maintenance.

Salma Shikdar

IT

Salma originally came to UK NEQAS BC on an internship in 2017 and has since joined us permanently in an IT post. She is the first point of contact within the department for all IT issues and provides support for the implementation and maintenance of IT systems. Her responsibilities also involve supporting our online facilities and profile, including the website and social media accounts.

Hilary King

Secretary / Receptionist

Hilary joined UK NEQAS BC in November 2020 and is responsible for arranging and servicing all meetings. She is the first point of contact for telephone enquiries and covers reception duties as required. Hilary also provides administrative support for UK NEQAS BC staff.
